🧱 Chapter One – One Brick Fell First
Caleb had one strange habit.
Whenever he travelled to a new town, he always looked for old buildings.
Not because he wanted to buy them.
He simply loved drawing them.
Every crack.
Every broken window.
Every old wall.
To him...
Old buildings had memories.
That afternoon, Caleb arrived in Briar Town.
It was a quiet place.
Small shops.
Narrow roads.
Children playing football.
Old men sitting outside drinking tea.
It felt peaceful.
Very peaceful.
Until he saw the house.
It stood at the end of the street.
Tall.
Grey.
Its walls looked older than every other building around it.
One side of the house had been covered with fresh bricks.
Only one side.
The rest looked untouched.
Caleb stopped walking.
He took out his sketchbook.
He started drawing.
Five minutes later...
A little boy walked up to him.
"Your picture is nice."
Caleb smiled.
"Thank you."
The boy pointed at the wall.
"You forgot that crack."
Caleb looked up.
There was no crack.
He looked back at his drawing.
His pencil had somehow drawn a long crack across the wall.
He frowned.
He erased it.
When he looked up again...
The little boy was gone.
Just like that.
Caleb looked around.
The road was empty.
He laughed quietly.
"I must be tired."
He packed his sketchbook.
As he turned to leave...
Something rolled across the road.
It stopped near his shoe.
It was an old red marble.
Very old.
Dust covered it.
Caleb picked it up.
The moment his fingers touched it...
He heard children laughing.
Lots of them.
He quickly looked around.
Nobody.
The street was still empty.
The laughter stopped.
His phone buzzed.
It was his friend, Nathan.
"Did you find anything interesting?"
Caleb smiled.
"Just an old house."
"And a strange wall."
Nathan replied almost immediately.
"Stay there."
"I'm driving over."
Caleb sat on a broken stone outside the house and waited.
The evening breeze became colder.
Clouds slowly covered the sun.
Then...
A single brick dropped from the wall.
Thud.
Caleb jumped.
Nobody had touched it.
He slowly walked closer.
Behind the missing brick...
There was darkness.
Not normal darkness.
It looked...
Deep.
Like the wall was hiding another room.
Caleb raised his phone flashlight.
Before he could shine it inside...
A hand slowly came out through the hole.
Not a whole arm.
Just the fingers.
Long...
Grey...
And covered in dust.
The fingers slowly pointed at Caleb.
Then a weak voice whispered,
"You came back..."

🌑 Chapter Two – Something Was Waiting Inside
Caleb stumbled backward.
His heart almost jumped out of his chest.
The grey fingers stayed there.
They did not move.
They only pointed at him.
Then...
They slowly disappeared back into the wall.
The hole became dark again.
Caleb stood there breathing hard.
"No..."
"I didn't just see that."
He looked around the street.
Cars were passing.
A woman walked by with shopping bags.
Two boys rode past on bicycles.
Everything looked normal.
Too normal.
Caleb slowly walked back to the wall.
He bent down.
The brick that had fallen was lying on the ground.
It looked old.
Very old.
There were strange marks on it.
Tiny lines.
Small circles.
Almost like someone had carved a message into it.
He brushed away the dust.
One word became clear.
DON'T.
Caleb stared at it.
Before he could think...
A car stopped beside him.
Nathan jumped out.
"Bro!"
"You sounded serious on the phone."
Caleb quickly picked up the brick.
"Come and see this."
Nathan looked at the wall.
Then at the brick.
He laughed.
"You called me because of one old brick?"
Caleb shook his head.
"You won't believe me..."
"...but somebody reached out from inside this wall."
Nathan burst into laughter.
"You've been watching too many horror movies."
Caleb didn't laugh.
He pointed at the hole.
"Look inside."
Nathan walked over.
He switched on his phone flashlight.
He shined it into the hole.
Nothing.
Just darkness.
He pushed the light in deeper.
Still nothing.
"See?"
"Empty."
Caleb frowned.
That made no sense.
He had seen the hand.
He knew he had.
Nathan suddenly stopped smiling.
His flashlight was shaking.
"Caleb..."
"There's something moving."
Caleb rushed beside him.
Both of them looked inside.
At first...
Nothing.
Then...
Far inside the wall...
A small light appeared.
It looked like a candle.
Slowly...
The light began coming closer.
Neither of them spoke.
The candle came closer.
Closer.
Closer.
Until they finally saw who was holding it.
An old woman.
Her face looked thin.
Her hair was completely white.
She wore a black dress.
She smiled at them.
Then she blew out the candle.
Everything became dark.
Nathan quickly pulled his flashlight away.
"Did you..."
"...did you see her too?"
Caleb nodded slowly.
Neither of them laughed anymore.
Just then...
A loud cracking sound echoed through the wall.
Another brick fell.
Then another.
Then another.
The hole was getting bigger.
And from somewhere deep inside...
Something heavy started walking toward them.
Boom...
Boom...
Boom...

👁 Chapter Three – Hidden Room Behind the Bricks
Boom...
Boom...
Boom...
The sound grew louder.
Caleb grabbed Nathan's arm.
"We need to move!"
Both of them stepped away from the wall.
Another brick fell.
CRACK!
Dust filled the air.
The hole became large enough for a person to crawl through.
The footsteps suddenly stopped.
Silence.
Nathan looked at Caleb.
"I don't like this."
Caleb nodded.
He didn't like it either.
But something inside him wanted answers.
He switched on his flashlight.
Its bright light disappeared into the opening.
There was no wall behind it.
There was another room.
A room that should not have been there.
Nathan frowned.
"That doesn't make sense."
"The house isn't big enough."
Caleb knew he was right.
From outside...
There was no space for another room.
Yet...
There it was.
The flashlight showed an old wooden table.
Broken shelves.
Old books lying everywhere.
Nothing had been touched for years.
Or so it seemed.
Caleb climbed through the opening.
Nathan quickly followed.
The air inside felt heavy.
Every breath was harder.
The room smelled like wet earth.
Not dust.
Not old wood.
Wet earth.
Like someone had buried something nearby.
Nathan shined his flashlight across the walls.
Words had been scratched into the stone.
Hundreds of them.
Some were too faded to read.
Others were still clear.
One sentence caught Caleb's eye.
"Don't let it hear your name."
He stared at it.
Nathan laughed nervously.
"Who writes things like this?"
Nobody answered.
Caleb kept walking.
Near the far corner...
He found an old wooden box.
It was covered in chains.
Three rusty locks held it shut.
Someone had worked very hard to make sure it stayed closed.
Nathan bent down.
"Think there's money inside?"
Caleb shook his head.
"I don't think this room is hiding money."
Nathan reached for one of the locks.
The moment his fingers touched it...
All three locks unlocked by themselves.
Click.
Click.
Click.
The chain slowly fell onto the floor.
Neither of them moved.
Nathan whispered,
"I didn't do that."
Caleb believed him.
The lid slowly opened.
Nobody touched it.
Inside...
There was no gold.
No old papers.
Only a small mirror.
Its glass looked black.
Caleb picked it up.
He looked into it.
Instead of seeing himself...
He saw the old woman holding the candle.
She was standing behind him.
Caleb quickly turned around.
Nobody.
The room was empty.
He looked back into the mirror.
This time...
The old woman was smiling.
Slowly...
She lifted one finger.
Not toward Caleb.
Toward Nathan.
Nathan suddenly stopped breathing.
His face turned pale.
He looked at Caleb with wide eyes.
"She just called my name..."
🌙 End of Chapter Three
🚪 Chapter Four – Name That Should Never Be Spoken
Nathan stood completely still.
His face had lost all its colour.
The flashlight slipped from his hand.
It hit the floor.
The light rolled across the room.
Long shadows danced on the walls.
Caleb grabbed him.
"Nathan!"
"What did you hear?"
Nathan swallowed hard.
His voice was shaking.
"She..."
"She said my full name."
Caleb frowned.
Nobody knew Nathan's full name except close friends.
He had never said it since they entered the house.
Nathan slowly looked at the black mirror.
The old woman was gone.
Only darkness remained.
Then...
The mirror slowly became clear again.
This time...
It showed the room.
But something was wrong.
The room inside the mirror was not the same room they were standing in.
Everything looked older.
The walls were cracked.
The ceiling was falling apart.
The wooden table had disappeared.
Instead...
A large wooden chair stood in the middle.
Someone was sitting on it.
The person faced away from the mirror.
Very slowly...
The chair began turning.
Nathan quickly covered the mirror with his hand.
"Don't!"
"I don't want to see it!"
The room suddenly became warm.
Too warm.
Sweat ran down Caleb's face.
The smell of smoke filled the air.
Nathan looked around.
"Do you smell that?"
Caleb nodded.
It smelled like something was burning.
But there was no fire.
Not yet.
Then...
One of the old books on the floor opened by itself.
Its pages turned quickly.
Flap...
Flap...
Flap...
The pages finally stopped.
Caleb knelt beside it.
There was only one sentence written on the page.
"When your name is heard...
...it already knows where you are."
Nathan slowly stepped backward.
His breathing became faster.
Then...
Somebody knocked.
Not on the wall.
Not on the floor.
On the door behind them.
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
Caleb looked at Nathan.
Nathan looked back.
Neither of them spoke.
The knocking came again.
This time...
It was louder.
BANG!
BANG!
BANG!
Then a calm voice came from outside.
"Open the door."
Caleb frowned.
He knew that voice.
It sounded exactly like...
His own.
Nathan's eyes became wide.
"Caleb..."
"If you're here..."
"...then who's outside?"
🌙 End of Chapter Four
🕯 Chapter Five – Door Opened by Itself
Nobody moved.
Caleb stared at the old wooden door.
Nathan grabbed his arm.
"Don't answer."
The voice came again.
"Caleb..."
"I know you're inside."
It sounded exactly like him.
Same voice.
Same way of talking.
Even the small pause before saying each word.
Caleb slowly shook his head.
"That's impossible."
Nathan whispered,
"It wants us to open the door."
Silence filled the room.
Then...
Something scratched the other side of the door.
Scratch...
Scratch...
Scratch...
Like long nails dragging across old wood.
Caleb stepped backward.
Nathan picked up a broken piece of wood from the floor.
It wasn't much.
But it was better than nothing.
Suddenly...
The scratching stopped.
Everything became quiet again.
Too quiet.
Then...
The door slowly opened.
Nobody touched it.
It simply opened.
The hallway outside was empty.
No footsteps.
No old woman.
No shadow.
Nothing.
Nathan looked at Caleb.
"We should leave."
Caleb nodded.
Both of them walked carefully into the hallway.
The strange hidden room was behind them now.
Neither of them looked back.
Halfway down the hallway...
Caleb stopped.
The picture hanging on the wall had changed.
Before...
It showed an empty garden.
Now...
Two people stood inside it.
Caleb.
Nathan.
They were looking straight out of the picture.
Nathan slowly turned toward it.
"Tell me you see that too."
Caleb nodded.
His mouth felt dry.
Then...
The people inside the picture smiled.
But Caleb and Nathan were not smiling.
The smiles belonged to someone else.
Someone wearing their faces.
Nathan quickly pulled the picture off the wall.
It crashed onto the floor.
The glass shattered.
The painting became blank.
For a moment...
Both of them relaxed.
Then...
Laughter echoed through the house.
Not one person.
Many people.
Men.
Women.
Children.
All laughing together.
The sound came from every direction.
Upstairs.
Downstairs.
Inside the walls.
Even beneath the floor.
Nathan covered his ears.
"Make it stop!"
Caleb noticed something moving at the end of the hallway.
A door.
It was opening slowly.
Inside...
There was no room.
Only darkness.
A darkness that looked alive.
Then a hand slowly reached out.
Not grey this time.
Completely black.
Long fingers.
Sharp nails.
It slowly pointed at Nathan.
Then a deep voice whispered,
"One of you can still leave..."
"...but not both."
🌙 End of Chapter Five
⚰ Chapter Six – Choice That Was Never Fair
Nathan slowly stepped back.
His face was covered with fear.
The black hand was still pointing at him.
It never moved.
It never blinked.
It simply waited.
Caleb quickly stood in front of Nathan.
"Leave him alone!"
The hallway became silent.
Then the deep voice laughed.
It was not loud.
It was worse.
It sounded happy.
"You still protect each other..."
"...just like before."
Caleb frowned.
"What do you mean?"
No answer.
Instead...
The black hand slowly disappeared.
The dark doorway closed by itself.
The laughter stopped.
Nathan let out a long breath.
"I don't understand anything anymore."
Neither did Caleb.
But one thing was clear.
Something inside this house already knew them.
That made no sense.
They had never been here before.
Or had they?
Caleb suddenly remembered something.
Years ago...
When he was little...
His grandmother once showed him an old photograph.
Behind her...
There had been a stone house.
Very similar to this one.
He had forgotten about it.
Until now.
Nathan touched his shoulder.
"Let's get out."
Caleb nodded.
They hurried downstairs.
The front door was only a few steps away.
Caleb smiled.
"We're finally leaving."
He grabbed the handle.
Pulled.
Nothing.
He pulled harder.
Still nothing.
Nathan tried.
The door would not move.
It felt like someone was holding it from outside.
Suddenly...
The old clock in the corner started ticking.
Tick.
Tick.
Tick.
Both men looked at it.
It had stopped at 4:17.
Now...
Its hands slowly began moving again.
4:18.
4:19.
4:20.
Each second sounded louder.
Tick.
Tick.
Tick.
Nathan whispered,
"Why is it working now?"
Nobody answered.
Then...
The lights inside the house went out.
Everything became dark.
Only Caleb's flashlight remained.
Its weak light shook in his hand.
The beam slowly moved across the room.
Past the stairs.
Past the old sofa.
Past the fireplace.
Then...
It stopped.
Someone was sitting in the rocking chair.
The chair slowly rocked back and forth.
Back...
Forward...
Back...
Forward...
The person never moved.
Only the chair.
Caleb slowly raised the flashlight.
The light reached the face.
He froze.
Nathan froze too.
Because sitting in the chair...
Was Caleb.
Not someone that looked like him.
It was him.
Same clothes.
Same face.
Same scar above his eyebrow.
The other Caleb slowly smiled.
Then he whispered,
"I've been waiting for you to come back."

🪞 Chapter Seven – One Had to Stay
Caleb could not move.
The man in the rocking chair looked exactly like him.
Same face.
Same eyes.
Even the small cut on his left eyebrow was there.
Nathan slowly stepped behind Caleb.
"Tell me that's not you."
Caleb swallowed.
"I wish I could."
The other Caleb stood up.
He smiled calmly.
Not a scary smile.
A tired one.
"You've changed."
"But I knew you would come."
Caleb shook his head.
"I've never been here before."
The other Caleb laughed softly.
"That's what all of us say."
Nathan frowned.
"What do you mean... all of us?"
The other Caleb pointed upstairs.
The house suddenly became noisy.
Footsteps.
Dozens of them.
Running across the floor above.
Running through the walls.
Running around them.
But nobody could be seen.
Then...
Every sound stopped.
The silence felt heavy.
The other Caleb slowly walked closer.
He stopped only a few steps away.
"This house keeps memories."
"Not pictures."
"People."
Nathan looked confused.
Caleb listened carefully.
"Every person who walks through that wall leaves something behind."
Caleb frowned.
"I don't understand."
The other Caleb pointed at himself.
"I am what you left behind."
Caleb felt cold.
Very cold.
That made no sense.
Then...
His head started hurting.
Small pictures flashed through his mind.
A little boy.
Running through this same house.
Laughing.
Holding a red marble.
The same marble he had picked up outside.
Caleb grabbed his head.
"No..."
"That's impossible..."
The memories disappeared.
Nathan quickly held him.
"Caleb!"
The other Caleb sighed.
"It has started."
Nathan looked angry.
"What do you want from us?"
The other Caleb looked straight at him.
"I don't want anything."
"The house does."
Suddenly...
The walls began shaking.
Dust fell from the ceiling.
The old clock rang loudly.
One...
Two...
Three...
It kept ringing.
Far more than twelve times.
The other Caleb slowly stepped backward.
His smile disappeared.
"It's awake."
The floor beneath them cracked open.
A deep red light rose from below.
Something enormous moved beneath the house.
Not walking.
Crawling.
Slowly...
The whole building groaned.
Then a voice echoed from deep below.
It wasn't loud.
But it reached every corner of the house.
"Only one Caleb..."
"...can leave."
Nathan looked at Caleb.
Then at the other Caleb.
Both were standing side by side.
Both looked exactly the same.
And for the first time...
Nathan realised...
He no longer knew which one was his real friend.

🌘 Chapter Eight – Face That Wasn't Real
Nathan's heart raced.
He looked at the Caleb beside him.
Then at the other Caleb.
They looked exactly the same.
Same face.
Same clothes.
Same voice.
Even the way they breathed was the same.
Nathan slowly stepped back.
"Which one of you is Caleb?"
Neither answered.
Both simply stared at him.
The floor shook again.
Dust fell from the ceiling.
The red light below became brighter.
The deep voice laughed.
"Choose..."
"...before I choose for you."
Nathan looked at the Caleb standing on his left.
"Tell me something only you know."
The first Caleb smiled.
"You hate tomatoes."
Nathan frowned.
That was true.
He looked at the other Caleb.
"And you?"
The second Caleb smiled too.
"You broke your arm when you were twelve."
Nathan froze.
That was true too.
His breathing became faster.
"This isn't possible..."
Both Calebs slowly walked toward him.
One from the left.
One from the right.
Nathan closed his eyes.
He tried to remember.
Real Caleb always...
Touched his watch whenever he was nervous.
Nathan opened his eyes.
One Caleb was rubbing his watch.
The other wasn't.
Nathan smiled.
"I found you."
He pointed.
At the Caleb rubbing his watch.
The room suddenly became silent.
Then...
The other Caleb laughed.
His body began changing.
His smile became wider.
Too wide.
His skin cracked.
Pieces fell onto the floor.
His eyes became completely black.
His arms stretched longer.
His fingers touched the floor.
Bones twisted loudly.
CRACK!
CRACK!
CRACK!
Nathan stumbled backward.
The thing standing before them was no longer human.
It was tall.
Almost touching the ceiling.
Its mouth slowly opened.
Inside...
There were no teeth.
Only darkness.
A darkness that moved.
The creature tilted its head.
Then spoke.
But it wasn't using its own voice.
It spoke using Nathan's voice.
"You chose correctly..."
"...but you're still too late."
Behind it...
The wall suddenly exploded.
Bricks flew everywhere.
A hidden staircase appeared.
It went downward.
Far downward.
No end could be seen.
Cold air rushed out.
Along with hundreds of whispers.
Not one whisper.
Hundreds.
Some crying.
Some laughing.
Some calling names.
Then...
A little girl slowly walked up the first step.
She carried the same red marble Caleb had picked up outside.
She looked at Caleb.
Tears rolled down her face.
She whispered only four words.
"You left me here."
🌙 End of Chapter Eight
🩸 Chapter Nine – Truth Buried Below
Caleb couldn't breathe.
The little girl stood on the staircase.
She wasn't angry.
She wasn't smiling.
She simply looked...
Heartbroken.
She held the red marble tightly.
The same marble Caleb had picked up outside.
Nathan slowly whispered,
"Who is she?"
Caleb shook his head.
He wanted to answer.
But his mouth refused to move.
The little girl took another step.
Then another.
She finally reached the top.
She stopped in front of Caleb.
Very gently...
She placed the marble into his hand.
The moment his fingers touched it...
Everything changed.
The house disappeared.
The walls were gone.
The stairs vanished.
Caleb found himself standing outside.
Not in the present.
Long ago.
Children were running across the yard.
Laughing.
Playing.
The little girl was there.
Alive.
She smiled as she chased a red marble.
A young boy ran beside her.
Caleb stared at the boy.
His heart almost stopped.
The boy looked exactly like him.
Only younger.
Maybe ten years old.
The boy laughed.
"You'll never catch me!"
The little girl laughed too.
"Give it back!"
The marble rolled toward the old stone house.
Both children chased after it.
The boy reached it first.
He picked it up.
Then...
He noticed something.
One brick in the wall was loose.
Curious...
He pulled it out.
Darkness waited behind it.
The little girl stepped closer.
"What's inside?"
Before the boy could answer...
Something grabbed the girl's arm.
She screamed.
The boy froze.
He was too scared to move.
The girl reached toward him.
"Help me!"
But he didn't.
He turned around...
And ran.
The girl's screams slowly disappeared.
Then...
Silence.
The memory ended.
Caleb fell onto his knees.
He was back inside the house.
Tears filled his eyes.
"It wasn't a dream..."
"I was here..."
"I left her..."
Nathan stared at him.
He had seen everything too.
Neither of them spoke.
The little girl nodded slowly.
Not with anger.
With sadness.
She whispered,
"You remembered."
The huge creature behind them let out a loud roar.
The whole house shook.
The floor cracked open again.
Dark smoke filled every room.
The creature smiled.
"Now..."
"...finish what you started."
The little girl slowly pointed toward the staircase below.
At the very bottom...
A small wooden door had opened.
Behind it...
Someone was crying.
Not the little girl.
Someone else.
Someone who had been trapped there...
For far longer.
🌙 End of Chapter Nine
🌅 Chapter Ten – Wall Finally Opened
The crying would not stop.
It came from behind the little wooden door.
Soft.
Weak.
Like someone who had cried for so many years that no tears were left.
Caleb looked at the little girl.
"Who is in there?"
She didn't answer.
She simply nodded toward the door.
Nathan slowly picked up the flashlight.
Its light was growing weaker.
"We don't have much time."
Behind them, the creature took one heavy step.
Boom.
Another.
Boom.
Every step made the house shake.
The walls were breaking apart.
Dust filled the air.
Caleb ran down the stone stairs.
Nathan followed close behind.
The crying became louder.
Finally...
They reached the small wooden door.
It had no lock.
Only a rusty handle.
Caleb reached for it.
His hand stopped.
He remembered the words scratched inside the hidden room.
"Don't let it hear your name."
He looked back.
The creature was coming down the stairs.
Slowly.
Like it already knew it had won.
Caleb pulled the handle.
The door opened.
Inside...
There was no monster.
No treasure.
Only another child.
A little boy.
He looked no older than eight.
He sat quietly on the floor.
Chains surrounded him.
Not metal chains.
Chains made of black smoke.
The boy slowly looked up.
His eyes were filled with tears.
"You came..."
Caleb knelt beside him.
"Who are you?"
The boy smiled sadly.
"I'm the first one."
Nathan frowned.
"The first what?"
The boy pointed toward the creature.
"The first person it copied."
Caleb slowly turned.
The creature had stopped moving.
It stared at the little boy.
For the first time...
It looked afraid.
The little girl walked beside Caleb.
She gently held the boy's hand.
The black chains started breaking.
One by one.
Snap.
Snap.
Snap.
The creature let out a terrible scream.
Its body cracked.
Pieces of black dust flew into the air.
It tried to move.
But it couldn't.
The little boy stood up.
He looked at the creature.
Then quietly said,
"It's over."
The creature exploded into thousands of tiny black feathers.
They floated through the air.
Then disappeared.
The shaking stopped.
The red light faded away.
Fresh air entered the house.
Morning sunlight shined through the broken windows.
The little girl smiled.
So did the little boy.
Both slowly faded into the light.
Before disappearing completely...
The little girl whispered,
"Thank you for coming back."
The house became silent.
A peaceful silence.
Caleb and Nathan walked outside.
Behind them...
The old stone wall slowly crumbled into dust.
Nothing remained.
Not even the hidden room.
Only open ground.
Caleb looked at the red marble in his hand.
He smiled.
Then gently placed it on the ground.
When he turned back...
The marble was gone.
🌿 Moral of the Story
Running away from your mistakes may hide them for a while, but they never truly disappear. The strongest thing a person can do is face the truth, make things right, and choose courage over fear.
