The Demon Under the Veil

🌫 Chapter One – The Woman Nobody Knew

It was a cold evening.

The wind was blowing softly through the old streets.

People were rushing back to their homes before night became too dark.

There was one road everybody tried to avoid.

It was called Ash Street.

Nobody liked passing there after sunset.

The old houses looked empty.

The trees made strange sounds whenever the wind blew.

People always said something watched from the shadows.

Some laughed at the stories.

Some believed every word.

One old man always warned the children.

"If you ever see a woman wearing a white veil..."

"...do not stop."

"Do not talk to her."

"And never ask to see her face."

The children would laugh.

They thought it was just another old story.

One evening, a young man named Daniel arrived in the town.

He had come to work in the old library.

He did not know anything about Ash Street.

He did not know the stories people whispered at night.

Daniel was not someone who believed in ghosts.

He believed every strange thing had a simple answer.

That night, he worked late.

By the time he locked the library...

The streets were almost empty.

Only the sound of the wind could be heard.

Daniel looked around.

There were two roads home.

One was long.

The other was Ash Street.

He smiled.

"I'll save some time."

Without thinking twice...

He turned into Ash Street.

The air suddenly became colder.

Very cold.

Daniel stopped walking.

Something felt different.

The wind had stopped.

Everything was quiet.

Too quiet.

Then...

He heard footsteps.

Slow.

Soft.

Behind him.

Daniel turned around quickly.

Nobody was there.

He laughed at himself.

"You're imagining things."

He continued walking.

Again...

The footsteps returned.

Step...

Step...

Step...

This time they sounded closer.

Daniel turned around once more.

At the far end of the street...

A woman stood completely still.

She wore a long white dress.

A white veil covered her face.

She did not move.

She simply stood there...

Looking straight at him.

Daniel felt a chill run through his body.

For the first time in his life...

He wished he had taken the longer road.

👁 Chapter Two – The Woman Who Came Closer

Daniel stood still.

His eyes stayed on the woman.

She had not moved.

The white veil still covered her face.

The street was silent.

Even the wind had disappeared.

Daniel rubbed his eyes.

"It must be someone walking home."

He tried to calm himself.

He took one step forward.

The woman did not move.

He took another step.

Still...

She remained standing.

Daniel smiled a little.

Maybe the old stories were only stories after all.

Then...

He looked down for only a second.

When he looked up again...

The woman was much closer.

Daniel froze.

His heart began beating fast.

"No..."

"She couldn't have walked that fast."

There had been no footsteps.

No sound.

Nothing.

Yet she was now standing only a few houses away.

Daniel slowly stepped backward.

The woman remained still.

Her head was slightly lowered.

The long white veil moved gently in the cold air.

Daniel turned around.

He decided to leave.

He walked faster.

Soon...

He was almost running.

After a few minutes, he finally stopped.

He looked behind him.

Nobody.

The street was empty.

Daniel breathed deeply.

"I knew it."

"I scared myself."

He laughed quietly.

Then...

A soft voice came from behind him.

"Are you leaving already?"

Daniel's whole body became cold.

Very slowly...

He turned around.

The woman was standing right behind him.

So close...

He could almost touch the edge of her veil.

Daniel jumped back in fear.

The woman did not move.

She simply lifted one hand.

A pale hand.

She pointed toward the end of the street.

"Come with me."

Daniel shook his head.

"No..."

"I don't know you."

The woman gave no answer.

She slowly turned around.

Then she began walking away.

Step...

Step...

Step...

After a few seconds...

She disappeared into the thick fog.

Daniel stood there, breathing heavily.

He wanted to run home.

He really did.

But something inside him kept asking one question.

"Who is she..."

"...and why did she call me?"

Without thinking...

Daniel slowly followed her into the fog.

🏚 Chapter Three – The House in the Fog

The fog was thick.

Daniel could hardly see where he was going.

The woman never looked back.

She just kept walking.

Slowly.

Quietly.

Daniel followed her.

He did not know why.

Something inside him kept saying,

"Just a little farther."

The houses around him slowly disappeared.

Soon...

He was no longer on Ash Street.

He was standing in front of an old house.

It was bigger than every other house in town.

Its walls were cracked.

The windows were broken.

The front gate hung on one hinge.

It looked like nobody had lived there for many years.

The woman stopped.

She stood in front of the old wooden door.

Without touching it...

The door slowly opened by itself.

Creeeeak...

Daniel felt his legs become weak.

He wanted to turn around.

He wanted to run.

But the road behind him was gone.

Only thick fog remained.

"What's happening?"

The woman stepped inside.

The house became dark again.

Daniel stood outside.

His heart beat louder than ever.

He looked around.

Nobody.

Not even a bird.

Only silence.

Then...

A soft cry came from inside the house.

It sounded like someone was asking for help.

"Please..."

"Help me..."

Daniel swallowed hard.

It sounded like a young woman.

He slowly stepped through the doorway.

The air inside was freezing cold.

Dust covered everything.

Old chairs lay on the floor.

Pictures hung crooked on the walls.

A large clock stood in the corner.

Its hands had stopped.

Twelve o'clock.

Daniel looked around.

The veiled woman was gone.

She had disappeared.

Only her footsteps remained.

Step...

Step...

Step...

They came from upstairs.

Daniel slowly walked toward the staircase.

The wooden steps made loud sounds.

Creak...

Creak...

Halfway up...

He noticed something on the wall.

It was a family picture.

Everyone in the picture was smiling.

Except one woman.

Her face had been scratched away.

Only the white veil remained.

Daniel stared at it.

Then he heard someone whisper right beside his ear.

"You shouldn't have come..."

Daniel turned around immediately.

Nobody was there.

But when he looked back at the picture...

The woman no longer had a scratched face.

She was smiling at him.

A smile that was never there before.

🌙 End of Chapter Three

🕯 Chapter Four – The Smile in the Mirror

Daniel could not move.

The woman in the picture was smiling at him.

Just a few seconds ago...

Her face had been scratched away.

Now...

She was looking straight at him.

Daniel slowly stepped back.

His hands began shaking.

"This isn't real..."

"It can't be real..."

Suddenly...

The picture fell from the wall.

Bang!

The sound echoed through the whole house.

Daniel jumped.

His breathing became faster.

Then...

He heard footsteps again.

Slow.

Heavy.

They were coming from the end of the hallway.

Daniel looked up.

The veiled woman was standing there.

She was not moving.

She simply stood there.

Looking at him.

Daniel gathered courage.

He spoke.

"Who are you?"

No answer.

Only silence.

He tried again.

"What do you want from me?"

The woman slowly lifted one finger.

She pointed toward a door.

It was the last door in the hallway.

Then...

She disappeared.

Just like smoke.

Daniel blinked.

She was gone.

Only the old door remained.

He slowly walked toward it.

The closer he got...

The colder the air became.

He placed his hand on the door handle.

It was freezing.

Very slowly...

He pushed the door open.

Inside was an old bedroom.

Everything was covered with dust.

A broken chair stood near the window.

An old bed filled one corner.

There was also a large mirror.

It reached almost from the floor to the ceiling.

Daniel walked closer.

He looked into it.

He saw himself.

Nothing strange.

He sighed with relief.

Then...

His reflection smiled.

Daniel did not.

His body froze.

Slowly...

His reflection raised one hand.

Daniel's hand stayed down.

The reflection was moving on its own.

Then the reflection whispered,

"Turn around..."

Daniel's heart almost stopped.

Very slowly...

He turned around.

Standing behind him...

Was the veiled woman.

Only this time...

She was close enough to touch him.

🌙 End of Chapter Four

👣 Chapter Five – The Face Behind the Veil

Daniel could not breathe.

The woman was standing so close.

He could hear her breathing.

Cold.

Slow.

She raised one hand.

It was pale.

Her fingers looked almost like dry branches.

Daniel wanted to run.

But his legs refused to move.

The woman pointed at the mirror.

Daniel slowly looked back.

This time...

The mirror was empty.

His own reflection had disappeared.

"No..."

Daniel whispered.

The woman took one more step.

Very slowly...

She reached for the veil.

Daniel closed his eyes.

He did not want to see what was hiding underneath.

But something inside him said,

"Look..."

He opened his eyes.

The veil was gone.

Daniel gasped.

The woman had no face.

Only darkness.

A deep black shadow where her face should have been.

No eyes.

No nose.

No mouth.

Just darkness.

Then...

Two glowing red eyes slowly opened inside the darkness.

Daniel stumbled backward.

He fell to the floor.

The woman did not move.

Her voice filled the room.

It did not sound human.

It sounded like many voices speaking together.

"You were never meant to come here."

Daniel shook his head.

"I didn't know..."

"I only followed you."

The room suddenly became darker.

The windows closed by themselves.

The old door slammed shut.

Bang!

Daniel jumped.

He rushed to the door.

He pulled the handle.

It would not open.

He pushed harder.

Nothing.

The woman slowly walked toward him.

Every step echoed inside the room.

Step...

Step...

Step...

Daniel looked around for another way out.

Then he noticed something.

On the small table beside the bed...

There was an old diary.

Its cover was covered in dust.

Across the front were three faded words.

"DO NOT OPEN."

The woman suddenly stopped walking.

For the first time...

She seemed afraid.

Very afraid.

Daniel looked from the diary...

Back to the woman.

He slowly reached for it.

The woman screamed.

A loud scream that shook the whole house.

The moment Daniel touched the diary...

Every candle in the room went out.

The room became completely dark.

🌙 End of Chapter Five

⚰ Chapter Six – The Diary's Secret

The room was dark.

Very dark.

Daniel could not see his own hands.

The woman's scream still echoed through the house.

Then...

The old diary began to glow.

Not brightly.

Just enough for Daniel to see it.

Its old pages slowly opened by themselves.

The wind turned each page.

One...

Two...

Three...

Until it stopped.

There was only one sentence written across the page.

"She was never the demon."

Daniel frowned.

He read it again.

"She was never the demon."

Before he could think...

More words slowly appeared on the page.

Like someone was writing them.

"The real demon wears no veil."

Daniel looked up.

The veiled woman was standing at the other end of the room.

She was no longer walking toward him.

She looked...

Afraid.

Suddenly...

A loud laugh filled the room.

It did not come from the woman.

It came from everywhere.

The walls shook.

The floor cracked.

The mirror exploded into hundreds of tiny pieces.

Daniel covered his face.

When he looked again...

A tall black shadow stood behind the woman.

It had no feet.

It floated above the floor.

Its eyes burned like fire.

Its smile stretched from one side of its face to the other.

The woman quickly stepped in front of Daniel.

She raised both hands.

For the first time...

She spoke clearly.

"Run!"

Daniel stared at her.

He was confused.

She was protecting him.

The black shadow laughed again.

"After all these years..."

"...you still protect strangers."

The woman did not answer.

She stood her ground.

The shadow lifted one hand.

Dark smoke filled the room.

The house began to shake harder.

Pieces of the ceiling started falling.

Daniel looked at the diary.

Another sentence appeared.

"Only the truth can break the curse."

Daniel whispered,

"What truth?"

But before anyone could answer...

The floor beneath them suddenly split open.

A deep hole appeared.

The black shadow slowly turned its burning eyes toward Daniel.

Then it smiled.

"Now..."

"...it's your turn."

🌙 End of Chapter Six

💀 Chapter Seven – The Truth Buried Below

Daniel stepped back.

His legs were shaking.

The dark hole in the floor kept growing wider.

Cold air rushed out from below.

It smelled old.

Very old.

The black shadow laughed again.

Its voice sounded like thunder.

"You cannot escape now."

The veiled woman stood in front of Daniel.

She refused to move.

The shadow stretched out its long arm.

Dark smoke rushed toward them.

The woman raised both hands.

A bright white light suddenly burst from her veil.

The smoke stopped.

The room became silent.

Daniel stared in surprise.

The woman was not evil.

She had been protecting this house all along.

The shadow growled angrily.

"You should have disappeared long ago."

The woman finally looked at Daniel.

Her voice was soft.

"Open the last page."

Daniel quickly picked up the glowing diary.

His hands were shaking.

He turned to the last page.

At first...

It was empty.

Then words slowly appeared.

"The demon was born from lies."

"The innocent were blamed."

"The guilty walked free."

Daniel frowned.

He kept reading.

Many years ago...

The woman had lived in this house.

She was kind.

She helped everyone.

But strange things began happening in the town.

People became afraid.

Instead of looking for the truth...

They blamed her.

They called her a demon.

They chased her into the old house.

They locked every door.

Then they set the house on fire.

Daniel stopped reading.

His eyes became wet.

She had never been the monster.

The real evil had hidden behind fear.

The shadow laughed loudly.

"Fear always feeds me."

"As long as people believe lies..."

"...I can never die."

The woman slowly turned toward the shadow.

The light around her became brighter.

The whole room began shaking again.

Daniel looked back at the diary.

One final sentence appeared.

"Speak the truth aloud."

Daniel looked at the woman.

Then at the shadow.

He took a deep breath.

He knew what he had to do.

But he also knew...

The shadow would never let him speak so easily.

🌙 End of Chapter Seven

🌑 Chapter Eight – The Words That Broke the Darkness

Daniel held the diary tightly.

The pages were shaking.

The house was shaking too.

Dust fell from the ceiling.

The black shadow stared at him.

Its red eyes became brighter.

Very bright.

The woman stood between Daniel and the shadow.

Her white veil moved gently.

She did not look afraid anymore.

She looked ready.

Daniel remembered the last words in the diary.

"Speak the truth aloud."

He took a deep breath.

His voice was shaking.

But he spoke.

"She was never the demon."

The room became quiet.

The shadow smiled.

Nothing happened.

Daniel spoke again.

This time louder.

"She was innocent."

"The town believed lies."

The shadow suddenly stepped back.

Its smile slowly disappeared.

Small cracks appeared across its body.

The woman looked at Daniel.

She nodded.

Daniel understood.

He shouted with all his strength.

"The real demon was fear!"

"Fear made good people do evil things!"

A bright light burst from the diary.

The whole room filled with white light.

The shadow screamed.

It covered its face.

Its body began breaking apart.

Piece by piece.

Like black glass.

"No!"

"They must keep believing!"

"They must stay afraid!"

Daniel did not stop.

He kept speaking.

He told the truth.

Every word made the shadow smaller.

Every truth made the room brighter.

The woman slowly removed her veil.

For the first time...

Daniel saw her real face.

She looked kind.

Peaceful.

She smiled softly.

Not like a monster.

Not like a demon.

Just like an ordinary woman.

The shadow let out one final scream.

Then...

It disappeared.

Not into smoke.

Not into darkness.

It simply vanished.

The room became quiet again.

The cold air was gone.

The broken mirror stopped shaking.

The house felt...

Peaceful.

For the first time in many years.

The woman looked at Daniel.

Tears filled her eyes.

She whispered,

"Thank you..."

Then her body slowly began to glow.

Daniel reached out.

But before he could touch her...

She slowly faded into the light.

Leaving only the old diary behind.

🌙 End of Chapter Eight

🌠 Chapter Nine – The House That Remembered

Daniel stood alone.

The room was quiet.

The bright light slowly disappeared.

Only the old diary remained on the floor.

He picked it up.

It no longer glowed.

It looked like an ordinary old book.

Daniel looked around.

The broken walls looked different now.

The darkness had gone.

The cold air had disappeared.

Even the old clock on the wall started ticking again.

Tick...

Tick...

Tick...

Daniel smiled.

The house was alive again.

He slowly walked downstairs.

The front door was already open.

Outside...

The morning sun filled the sky.

The thick fog was gone.

Flowers grew beside the old house.

Birds sat on the roof singing happily.

Daniel looked back one last time.

The house no longer looked frightening.

It looked peaceful.

Almost beautiful.

As he began walking away...

He heard footsteps behind him.

He quickly turned.

Nobody was there.

Then...

He heard a soft laugh.

Not a scary laugh.

A happy one.

Daniel smiled.

He knew who it was.

The woman had finally found peace.

He continued walking toward the town.

When he reached the first street...

People were already outside.

One old woman looked at him with surprise.

"You came from Ash Street?"

Daniel nodded.

Everyone became silent.

Another man slowly asked,

"Did... did you see the veiled woman?"

Daniel smiled gently.

"I did."

"But she was never your enemy."

The people looked at one another.

Nobody spoke.

Daniel opened the diary.

He showed them the final pages.

The truth about what had happened many years ago.

Some people cried.

Some lowered their heads in shame.

Others whispered,

"So all these years..."

"...we believed the wrong story."

Daniel closed the diary.

Sometimes...

The scariest monster is not a ghost.

It is a lie that people refuse to let go.

But one question still remained.

Who had written the diary?

And why was the very last page...

Still completely blank?

🌙 End of Chapter Nine

✨ Chapter Ten – The Last Page

That evening...

Daniel returned to the library.

The old diary was still in his hands.

He placed it carefully on the wooden table.

The room was quiet.

Only the sound of the old clock could be heard.

Tick...

Tick...

Tick...

Daniel slowly opened the diary again.

He turned every page.

The story was still there.

Every word.

Every name.

Nothing had changed.

Until he reached the last page.

The page was no longer empty.

New words slowly appeared.

Daniel watched in silence.

"Thank you..."

"...for believing me."

Daniel smiled.

He knew who had written it.

The woman was finally free.

He gently closed the diary.

The moment it closed...

It turned into dust.

Soft white dust.

It floated into the air.

Then disappeared.

Daniel looked out of the library window.

The town looked different now.

People were smiling again.

Children were playing outside.

Nobody talked about the demon anymore.

Nobody feared Ash Street anymore.

A few days later...

The old house was opened again.

Workers repaired the broken walls.

Fresh flowers were planted outside.

People visited without fear.

Some even said they could feel peace inside the house.

Daniel visited one last time.

He stood in the same room where everything had happened.

The mirror was gone.

The darkness was gone.

Everything felt warm.

As he turned to leave...

A soft breeze passed through the room.

He heard a gentle voice.

"Live without fear..."

"...and always look for the truth."

Daniel smiled.

He walked outside.

The sun was shining brightly.

He never saw the veiled woman again.

But he never forgot her.

Because sometimes...

The people we fear the most...

Are only carrying the pain nobody cared to understand.

🌿 Moral of the Story

Do not believe every story you hear. Always look for the truth before judging someone. Fear and lies can destroy innocent lives, but truth will always bring light in the end.
